Massimo Moratti is “very happy” for Jose Mourinho’s new role at Tottenham, but “it’s everyone’s dream to see him back at Inter.”
The Special One took the job after Mauricio Pochettino was sacked, receiving the formal announcement this morning.
“I am very happy for him and I’m also pleased for Tottenham, who made a good choice, even if Pochettino was a fine coach,” former Inter President Moratti told Tuttomercatoweb.
“Mourinho has everything it takes to do very, very well in London. Perhaps he was out of a job for so long because it was his decision to wait for what motivated him the most. He’s in London, joining the Champions League finalists, a club of great prestige.”
There had also been suggestions over the summer that Mourinho could return to Serie A, specifically where he won the Treble in 2010.
“It is the dream of all Inter fans to see him back here, that seems natural enough,” added Moratti.
“It’s inevitable that we hope sooner or later to see him at the helm of Inter again. Of course, Antonio Conte is doing great things right now and getting the best out of the players at his disposal.”
The former patron was asked which players in the current squad would have made it into the Treble-winning side, but he was not terribly impressed.
“Samir Handanovic is certainly very important in goal. Of the new crop, let’s say I am pleased that Nicolò Barella and Stefano Sensi have settled in very quickly. Those two and Lautaro Martinez could’ve been part of the squad.”
