The Corriere dello Sport report that Italy coach Roberto Mancini would like two friendlies against England and Germany, as opposed to a trip to Qatar.
The Azzurri had been scheduled to fly to Qatar for a lucrative deal that included two games in March 2020.
However, Mancini believed the trip to be of no purpose to his team, and requested that they organise friendlies against tougher opposition, with England and Germany believed to be the two sides Mancio wants to face.
It's reported Italy are working on a clash with England at Wembley on March 26, with Germany on March 31 in Dortmund, Munich or Stuttgart.
He had also requested that Serie A finish a week early, with an extra midweek round in February, to give his players time to recuperate before the tournament starts.
