Verona’s partial stadium ban for racially abusing Brescia striker Mario Balotelli has been officially suspended.

The FIGC’s disciplinary commission initially ordered Verona to host Fiorentina on Sunday with the Poltrone Est sector of its curva closed.

It came after fans from that part of the Bentegodi stadium were heard chanting monkey noises at Balotelli during their side’s 2-1 win against Brescia on November 3.

It came after fans from that part of the Bentegodi stadium were heard chanting monkey noises at Balotelli during their side’s 2-1 win against Brescia on November 3.

However, in a fresh twist, the federation’s appeals court announced on Thursday that the punishment had been suspended, pending further investigation.

The sanction had already been considered lenient, and it now remains to be seen whether it ends up being enforced at all.

Even if it did, supporters with season tickets for the sector in question could still simply buy a regular ticket and sit elsewhere.
