Genoa boss Thiago Motta expects his midfielders to chip in with goals in the wake of Christian Kouame's injury and has a very different approach to SPAL.

"Kouame's injury should act as motivation for the whole team, not just in the attacking department. I expect goals from midfielders and defenders. Games are just not won by strikers," said the coach in his press conference.
Motta graduated through the Barcelona youth set-up, and wants Genoa a style similiar to that of the Catalans.
"Every coach has a style of play he strongly believes in. Possession of the ball is a means to try and win the game, not to appease the fans or to be comfortable. Sometimes you win with less of the ball, and other times you win without a lot of it.
"SPAL run a lot, but they are convinced of their own ideas, they know what they want to do. It's the victory of [Leonardo] Semplici. It will be a very competitive game against SPAL tomorrow night."
Genoa put in a positive display against Napoli before the international break, and Motta wants that to continue.
"Lets start from the Napoli game without thinking too much of our opponent, because I can only control what is in our capabilities. I ask the lads for the absolute maximum, in the end all that counts is the result."
