After a slow start to their European campaign, Lazio beat Cluj 1-0 on Thursday to keep their hopes alive going into the final round of group games.

However, they will need to beat Stade Rennais and hope Celtic do them a favour by beating Cluj to reach the knockout stages.

Joaquin Correa scored Lazio’s winner against CFR Cluj last night, and he insists his side still “believe” they can qualify for the Europa League last 32.

After a slow start to their European campaign, Lazio beat Cluj 1-0 on Thursday to keep their hopes alive going into the final round of group games.

However, they will need to beat Stade Rennais and hope Celtic do them a favour by beating Cluj to reach the knockout stages.

“We believe in qualifying until the last match,” he told Lazio Style Channel.

“We have to beat Rennes and we are happy about the win tonight.

“Today a lot of young players got to play, they haven’t had too many chances before, and they did well. This is very important for the squad.”

He then praised the qualities of fellow forwards Jony Rodriguez and 20-year-old Bobby Adekanye, who was making his full debut for the Aquile.

“Jony is a top player, I know him very well. I look for him and he looks for me, we know each other.

“He played well with Adekanye, we are all very happy for him. Adekanye is a young lad and he’s learning a lot. We need someone like him.”

Correa has been an important player for Lazio this season, helping the team to third place in Serie A with six goals in 13 games.

However, the Argentine attacker insists he is still looking to develop.

“Now I need to improve and continue to do well, to help my teammates.”
