The Friulani are fresh from a 2-1 defeat at Sampdoria, a game they had been leading 1-0 until Mato Jajalo’s red card.

“There was great disappointment after the match, because we knew that we’d thrown away a big opportunity,” said the caretaker manager in his press conference.

“However, this must not affect the direction this team is taking, which is to play more attacking and pro-active football.

“We know that Lazio at this moment are in dominant form, as they’ve created more scoring opportunities than any other side and have a lot of quality. I think they create even more chances than Atalanta.

“We are only at the beginning of our journey and cannot think of just defending to get a point in Rome.

“Udinese have thrown away too many points due to obvious errors and the team is lacking in maturity. The relative lack of Serie A appearances throughout the squad does make a difference.”

Gotti confirmed Walace is the only real alternative to suspended Jajalo, while Ignacio Pussetto is not ready to start yet after an injury.

“Udinese are at the start of their journey now. Whether I am still the coach throughout it or not is irrelevant, because this growth process is set out by the club.”

Meanwhile, today is the 123rd anniversary of the club’s foundation.
