Walter Mazzarri stood by his unusual decisions after Torino won 1-0 away to Genoa. “The key is to be a team and that’s what we did today.”
The Granata thanked the woodwork twice at Marassi and snatched a goal against the run of play with Bremer’s header on a corner.
“We were clinical, yes, as during Genoa’s best period of the game, we had that little bit of luck. It’s the luck we didn’t take in the first half when missing that Cristian Ansaldi chance,” said the coach in his press conference.
“We used a high pressing game, which we relied on a lot last season.”
Even with Andrea Belotti injured, Mazzarri opted not to start Simone Zaza, instead using Sasa Lukic as a False 9.
“It has been a difficult season so far and when a coach wants to shake things up, he has to show there is no hierarchy. It’s how we made the turning point last season, when we went on that strong run of results. I am happy with the choices I made today and the lads repaid me.
“However, we’ve achieved nothing yet, so let’s get our heads down and keep pushing. We have to give a sense of consistency to our results, but above all our performances.
“The key is to be a team and that’s what we did today.”
