Inter general manager Beppe Marotta wants to keep striker Lautaro Martinez but accepts “the market is unpredictable.”
Martinez has already scored 13 goals for Inter in all competitions, including a brace against SPAL yesterday that put them top of the table, and Marotta would like to tie down the Argentine to a better contract.
“Lautaro is a good lad. He is grateful to Inter, he is comfortable here,” he said after Monday’s Lega Serie A assembly.
“Inter and Suning both have one objective: to improve, and to improve you can’t give up your best players, but the market is unpredictable.
“There is always the will of the player to take into account, they choose where they want to go. But it’s not the moment to talk about renewals or transfers.”
The former Juventus executive then commented on Antonio Conte’s influence at the club, with the Nerazzurri top after 14 games for the first time in a decade.
“I know Antonio well, he is a great professional and a winner. We get on very well.
“The players are responding clearly to his commands. Even a player like Borja Valero responds to him.
“Inter don’t have many big names on paper, but we have players with a lot of substance.”
Lautaro and Romelu Lukaku are responsible for 60 percent of Inter’s goals so far this season, and Marotta believes they have the right chemistry.
“There is the right chemistry between Lukaku and Martinez. Here too, the hand of the coach is very important as he is getting the best out of two valuable players.
“Lukaku and Martinez are great friends and have a good rapport on the pitch.”
