Parma striker Carl Davordzie thanked teammate Gervinho for advice during his injury nightmare and found it “surreal” to meet Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 19-year-old Ghanaian was quickly promoted to the senior squad after his arrival in November 2018, scoring a goal and providing two assists in just three games.
His progress stalled after a serious injury during a youth tournament in March, which required two operations in Finland.
“I dribbled past my opponent at the edge of the 18-yard box, but stretched over and injured my adductor. I was completely devastated. It was difficult to bear the pain and the torment of having to stay away from the game for a very long time,” Davordzie told Richard Gyasi in an exclusive interview.
“I had just been promoted to the first team and hoping to get a shot at the top flight. Then all of a sudden, I had to come to terms with the reality of sitting out for more than half a season, watching my teammates train and play every weekend. It was quite difficult to mentally adjust.
“I have been training for some time now and feeling great. I should be ready next month. I would like to thank my team and the medical staff for seeing me through this trying period.”
He thanked teammates Gervinho and Roberto Inglese for their advice during his training sessions with the senior Parma squad and has already made some of his childhood dreams come true, even before setting foot on the pitch in Serie A.
“Sitting on the bench against Juventus felt surreal. For the first time I got to see Cristiano Ronaldo in person. It was an amazing encounter. This is an idol I have watched and cherished from a very young age. It was dream come true.”
Maybe Davordzie will soon be able to play opposite Ronaldo too.
