Gennaro Gattuso has been contacted by Napoli and Fiorentina, according to reports, with suggestions Carlo Ancelotti will be sacked on December 10.
According to Sky Sport Italia, Ancelotti will leave Napoli at the very least at the end of the season, possibly before that if results continue to be disappointing.
Gattuso is emerging as the prime candidate to take over, believing he has the firm hand to ensure determination within the Stadio San Paolo ranks.
Calciomercato.com go even further, claiming director of sport Cristiano Giuntoli contacted Gattuso over the last 48 hours in order to discuss his availability, either at the end of the season or even earlier.
Radio Marte go so far as to suggest Aurelio De Laurentiis has already decided to sack Ancelotti after the final Champions League match with Genk on December 10 and hire Gattuso.
It seems the crunch summit between coach and team yesterday did not go well, with the players no longer prepared to follow his guidance, leading De Laurentiis to consider a rapid change of course.
Fiorentina have also been repeatedly linked with former Milan coach Gattuso, should Vincenzo Montella be dismissed.
Gattuso terminated his contract with Milan by mutual consent over the summer, having missed out on Champions League places by one point.
He had been offered the Genoa and Sampdoria roles, but turned them down.
