Genoa striker Andrea Pinamonti says his dream is to become Italy’s No 9 after scoring the winner against Ascoli in the Coppa Italia.
The 20-year-old scored his fourth goal of the season in a 3-2 victory over the Serie B side, two months after Azzurri CT Roberto Mancini sounded him out as the future.
“My dream is to become Italy No 9,” Pinamonti told reporters after the cup tie.
Genoa are currently 18th in Serie A and won their first game since beating Brescia 3-1 on October 26, so how much does the result mean to them?
“This win is worth so much. Winning breeds winning. We needed this win for our morale and to be calmer when we face our next challenge.
“I am satisfied, even if we found it more difficult than we thought. It’s necessary to go through difficult periods to grow.”
