Bologna assistant Emilio De Leo admits the team let Sinisa Mihajlovic down after their 4-0 drubbing by Udinese. “He’s certainly not happy.”

De Leo and fellow No 2 Miroslav Tanjga took charge of Bologna again on Wednesday evening, with the side seemingly on a high after their win at Napoli.

However, they were sent crashing out of the Coppa Italia by Udinese and Mihajlovic’s right-hand man promptly apologised to supporters.

“We never make excuses, we’re sorry for the fans,” he said after the game.

However, they were sent crashing out of the Coppa Italia by Udinese and Mihajlovic’s right-hand man promptly apologised to supporters.

“We never make excuses, we’re sorry for the fans,” he said after the game.

“We apologise to them. They travelled so many kilometres and expected a different evening.

“We wanted to follow up on our performance in Naples. I believe that continuity would’ve been useful for us.

“The coach picks his XI based on the lads’ dedication. Tonight, those who have worked admirably hard throughout the season played.

“They deserved these minutes. Everyone could’ve done more, that’s obvious. For better or worse, this team must take responsibility and be cohesive.”

Their performance was seen by the Serb, who was recently discharged from hospital after another round of cancer treatment completed.

“We heard Sinisa during the game. He’s always combative and critical. He expected a different performance and he’s certainly not happy.

“We know we must get rid of this waste right away. Maybe it can give us a further shock for the match against Milan.”
