Rolando Maran believes Cagliari “showed our true identity once more” during their 2-1 win against Sampdoria in the Coppa Italia last night.
Cagliari will now face Inter in the last 16 next month, and Maran says it was a “fair reward” for his players and their commitment to approaching every game in the same way.
“The most important thing was to go through,” he said after the tie. “We showed our true identity once more.
“The lads also have a great approach to cup games. It makes me happy because this underlines the great work the lads are doing and it’s a fair reward for them.”
Alberto Cerri scored his second goal against Samp in four days, but the Rossoblu boss also pointed out the performance of peripheral forward Daniele Ragatzu, who netted the winner.
“I’m happy for him [Cerri] and Ragatzu as they both scored. But I liked them all, from [Alessandro] Deiola to [Christian] Oliva to [Sebastian] Walukiewicz.
“The approach I saw from everyone, all of them want to be in the limelight. We try to honour all the games in the same way, we are motivated to always do well.”
The Sardinians are now unbeaten in 13 games across all tournaments and travel to Sassuolo in Serie A on Sunday.
