Napoli announced Marek Hamsik will be honoured with an award before their home game against Genk on Tuesday. “There will be a surprise for him.”
Head of operations and marketing Alessandro Formisano was speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss about an array of issues, starting with honouring Hamsik’s contributions to Napoli.
“Hamsik will be there for Napoli-Genk. Marek has confirmed this date. An hour before the game, we will give him a small ceremony and present him with a surprise.
“There will be a person very loved by the Neapolitan people who will present the award to him.”
Hamsik played in Naples for 12 years, from 2007 to 2019, and made 520 competitive appearances for the Partenopei, scoring 121 goals.
He moved to Dalian Yifang in the Chinese Super League in February.
His status as the club's all-time top scorer is under threat, as Dries Mertens is closing fast on 117.
Napoli need only a point against Belgian side Genk to secure their passage to the Champions League Round of 16.
