Thiago Motta: 'If you don't love Genoa....'

Thiago Motta prepares to face Lecce and warns “anyone who doesn’t love Genoa can step aside” after tensions flared.

It kicks off on Sunday at 11.30 GMT, click here for a match preview.

“I expect a difficult game, as always, but we are prepared to play our football, because only by attacking can we have a better chance of winning,” said the coach in his press conference.

“I’m pleased to see this mentality in the squad and the whole club. We are all on the same track, we think of what is best for Genoa, as does President Enrico Preziosi.

“There might be some who are not on board with what we are doing, but I am not interested in them. We need the support of our fans, because they love Genoa. Anyone who doesn’t love Genoa can just step aside.

“I see them every day. I see those who spark gossip, who never stand up and take responsibility, just fill the air with endless speculation.

“I was called in to save Genoa and we all have the same objective here. In order to do that, we need to be united and sacrifice ourselves for the greater good. These elements cannot be lacking.

“We are convinced we’re on the right path and all aware of our objective this term.”

Lukas Lerager, Riccardo Saponara and Cristian Zapata are all injured, while Lasse Schone confessed this week he misses Ajax.

“That is only natural, seeing as Schone was there for many years. I hope that the day he leaves Genoa, he’ll miss this club too,” continued Thiago Motta.

“Lecce have a very united team and know what they need to do. I think they have so far been more successful away from home because it allows them to hurt opposition teams on the counter-attack without thinking too hard.

“We can cause them real problems and a victory would further boost our prospects.”
