Former Inter coach Andrea Stramaccioni has had his contract with Iranian side Esteghlal FC terminated due to ‘payment irregularities’.

Stramaccioni had been at the club since June this year and had led the side to first place in the Persian Gulf Pro League this season.

News agency Adnkronos report that the former Udinese boss has had his contract annulled due to repeated missed payments from the Iranian side.

The situation had been dragging on for several weeks and FIFA ruled he could terminate the contract.

The 43-year-old hasn’t managed in Serie A since June 2015, when he was sacked by Udinese after a season in charge.

Stramaccioni released a brief statement in which he said he "wants to return to to Italy soon."
