Angry Esteghlal fans have taken to the Iranian capital of Tehran to protest against their club after Andrea Stramaccioni’s exit.
The Gazzetta dello Sport reports around 100 Esteghlal supporters descended upon the offices of Iran’s Ministry of Sport and Youth, which owns the club.
The matchday programme could even be affected because of a fear that the protests could turn into riots.
Stramaccioni terminated his contract yesterday because of missed payments but had been a popular figure, guiding the side top of the Persian Gulf Pro League.
However, FIFA ruled that the former Inter boss could tear up his contract, which did not expire until June 2022, due to payment issues.
La Gazzetta adds he left Tehran last night in a private jet but that his colleagues are still in the city.
The entire board has resigned, including President Amirhossein Fathi, although Esteghlal say they could bring the 43-year-old back on a new deal, despite his desire to return to Italy.
