Chelsea coach Frank Lampard is “very sorry” for Carlo Ancelotti after his Napoli dismissal but believes his former boss “can work anywhere in the world”.

Ancelotti was sacked for failing to arrest Napoli’s poor run in Serie A, despite leading them to the Champions League knockout stages last night.

“I have huge respect for him, I am very sorry for him,” Lampard said at a press conference.

“I know it was a tough job for him lately.”

The 60-year-old guided the Blues to their first-ever domestic double in 2010, and he is now being linked with Premier League vacancies at Arsenal and Everton.

“I saw his interview before the game and I thought it was a very typically classy interview in what seemed a very tough time for him. He always handles himself brilliantly.

“I think he can work anywhere in the world at the top level, of course.”
