Beppe Marotta has all-but-confirmed that Gabriel Barbosa will leave Inter soon, with the forward “not part of our plans”.

Gabigol has scored 34 goals in just 41 appearances for Flamengo during a loan spell this calendar year, helping fire them to the Brazilian title and success in the Copa Libertadores.

Inter, on the other hand, have been struggling for firepower since Alexis Sanchez’s injury and went out of the Champions League yesterday.

Nonetheless, Marotta made it clear there was no way back on the blue half of San Siro for the attacker.

“He’s a great player, but right now we have a large and high-quality pool of forwards, consisting of Lukaku, Martinez, Sanchez, Esposito and Politano,” the CEO told ESPN.

“Gabigol isn’t part of our plans, but he has great value.”

Flamengo chief Rodolfo Landim announced yesterday that his club had reached “a preliminary agreement” to sign the 23-year-old outright.
