Fabio Liverani blasted his Lecce players for showing “practically no quality” in a 3-0 loss to Brescia, but also criticised Mario Balotelli after a touchline exchange of words.

The Salentini suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat at the Stadio Rigamonti and it sucks them right back into the danger zone.

“We created chances, played well, but if you get the final ball wrong, you need real quality to do damage. It’s about choosing the final pass, cross or shot, because today we had practically no quality in that sense. We need to work on that,” the Lecce boss told Sky Sport Italia.

“Our possession was sterile, it took five or six touched to get into the penalty area. We need to move the ball around fast, as well as our legs, otherwise you’re not going to find the gap.

“That mentality, that is what I need to train more during the week, because making those choices is not a technical issue, it’s an individual one.”

Liverani was asked about his tactical decisions, such as bringing on Filippo Falco only in the second half.

“We talked before the game, as I watched Falco train this week and he was the first to admit he wasn’t in great shape. I dialogue with my players and he has to be at 100 per cent in order to be important for Lecce.

“The biggest disappointment today was the attitude of some players, as it seems having 15 points in the table made a few of us feel too complacent and safe, when we are anything but.

“Once again, we gifted two goals to the opposition and it’s really difficult for anyone to overcome that mountain when we’d played really well for the first 15-20 minutes.”

There seemed to be a row at the touchline between Liverani and Parma striker Balotelli.

“We all have our history,” explained the coach. “I’ve been in the football world for over 20 years, people know me. People have eyes, they have ears, they can see how you behave on the pitch and act accordingly.

“It would perhaps be wise for Balotelli not to have this attitude of being sneaky, of trying to turn things his way, of stirring up trouble.”
