Genoa coach Thiago Motta felt “neither side deserved to win” the Derby della Lanterna and shrugged off questions about his future after defeat to Sampdoria.
Manolo Gabbiadini got the only goal of the game after 85 minutes, one of only two shots on target in the entire match.
“It was a complicated encounter with a lot of fouls. Neither side deserved to win, but we must go on,” Motta told DAZN.
“We have to play with conviction, to always play the ball to feet and finish our chances better. The team I put out tonight was the best I had available and I don’t want any alibis. We could’ve done much better.”
Since taking over from Aurelio Andreazzoli on October 22, Thiago Motta has overseen two Genoa wins (one in the Coppa Italia), three draws and four defeats.
Sportitalia are already beginning to suggest the club is looking around for another tactician, with Massimo Ficcadenti an option.
“That is a question for the club and not for me,” replied the former PSG youth team coach.
