Flamengo reiterate they have a “preliminary agreement” for Gabriel Barbosa but accept the buck lies with the Inter forward.
Gabigol has regained his form during a loan spell at Flamengo, where he has scored 34 goals in 41 games, winning a League and Copa Libertadores double.
Now the forward is preparing to lead the Brazilian side’s attack at the Club World Cup in Qatar, while President Rodolfo Landim tries to make his stay permanent.
“Flamengo have already gone far enough in the negotiations with Inter and we have a preliminary agreement on the value of the player,” Landim told Torcedores.
“We needed to talk to him, and we started the conversation, but right now there’s no agreement.
“We decided to talk again at the end of the season and the end of the season will now end with the Club World Cup.”
The patron was then asked whether he felt a deal could be done.
“He will be more able to answer this question than me. We are interested in keeping him here.
“When you decide, you don’t only decide in the moment but also with regards to the future, in respect of the career you want to have.
“It will depend on him, but we haven’t talked to him about a definite decision.”
