Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata could be in line to make his return against Parma on January 6, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Colombian has been out with injury since early October, when he suffered a thigh tear when playing on international duty in a friendly against Venezuela.
The centre-forward has been in Sevilla receiving treatment for some time.
La Gazzetta states that Zapata will return to Bergamo today to begin extensive physiotherapy treatment in order to speed up his prolonged recovery.
The idea is to have the striker on the bench for the home game against Parma when Serie A returns in the New Year, and for him to start against Inter the following week at San Siro.
He will go to Villa Stuart in Rome, Italy’s best sports clinic, for a final assessment before making a return to the pitch.
Zapata has missed the majority of La Dea’s historic run to the Round of 16 in the Champions League, playing only two games.
He’s scored seven goals in nine appearances in all competitions this season.
