This Week 7 match was rescheduled from October 6 following the death of Sassuolo patron Giorgio Squinzi, so a win allows the Neroverdi to catch Verona and Bologna on 19 points in joint 11th place.

“I was born 100m from the stadium, I started going to Brescia games at the age of 8 and I am proud the fans chanted my name,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

His assistant manager is also a familiar face, former Rondinelle striker Davide Possanzini.

“I know how hard Brescia are to play against with Eugenio Corini in charge, so this victory is worth double. It wasn’t just a game with the ball, but played with the brain, because we had to stay constantly focused.

“Manuel Locatelli is becoming a complete midfielder and I don’t see many better than him at the moment. He had dropped down the pecking order because he was a little sluggish, but has learned to always push himself. I am sure sooner or later, a big club will come and take him away.”

Sassuolo are now unbeaten in four Serie A games and starting to climb into mid-table comfort.

“We are ambitious, but it is also true that we’ve had some surprising setbacks and strange defeats, so we also have to look over our shoulders and realise we need to keep the tension up. When Brescia had that period of pressure, for example, a goal there would’ve changed the game.”
