The 3-1 result in Riyadh was not only Lazio’s fifth edition of the Supercup, allowing them to match Inter in the all-time charts, but also a repeat of the Serie A victory over Maurizio Sarri’s Juve earned on December 7.

“We did something magical, as in barely two weeks to beat Juve twice is incredible,” the coach told Rai Sport.

“I think this was another deserved victory for a strong team that always believed in our ideas and these lads deserve this.”

Inzaghi surprised with his substitutions, taking off goal-scorer Luis Alberto and midfielder Lucas Leiva, but Danilo Cataldi scored the third goal.

“I have great faith, as I see Cataldi, Marco Parolo and others training, so I know they can come on. Luis Alberto and Lucas Leiva had yellow cards and I was afraid they could get caught on the counter, so I preferred to take them off.”

Lazio are third in Serie A after eight straight wins, Coppa Italia holders and the only team to beat Juventus not once, but twice this season. Are they dark horses for the Scudetto?

“Never mind the Scudetto, we need to work to enjoy nights like this. We’ve had quite a few of them in recent years and we want to keep experiencing them,” insisted Inzaghi.

“I never had big problems, but at some times when things went wrong, I know who was always by my side and who wasn’t. I dedicate this trophy to them.”
