Roma are reportedly ready to promise Lorenzo Pellegrini the No10 shirt and the captain’s armband if he signs a new contract to remove a release clause in his current deal.
The former Sassuolo player is tied to the club until 2022 but has a €30m release clause in his deal, making him an obvious target for the biggest clubs in Europe.
The 23-year-old is born in Rome and left the Giallorossi academy in 2015, but was brought back to the capital only two seasons later.
The Corriere dello Sport claims the Giallorossi’s sporting director Gianluca Petrachi is working on renewing his deal until 2024 and will try to tempt the Italy international to remove his release clause by giving him a greater deal of the responsibilities at the Olimpico in the future.
The report states that they are willing to hand him Fracesco Totti’s old number and eventually let him succeed Alessandro Florenzi and Edin Dzeko as captain for the team.
Since Pellegrini returned from the Neroverdi in 2017, he has played 85 times and scored eight goals in the process. He has also made 21 assists and his impressive form earned him 12 games for Italy.
