Inter’s technical manager Gabriele Oriali says the club are surpassing expectations at this stage of the season. “We didn’t think we’d be where we currently are.”

Oriali is presently working both for Inter and the Italian national side, but is happy with how things are going.

“I’m fulfilling two roles at the moment, it’s demanding but gives me great satisfaction," Oriali told Inter's official website.

Oriali is presently working both for Inter and the Italian national side, but is happy with how things are going.

“I’m fulfilling two roles at the moment, it’s demanding but gives me great satisfaction," Oriali told Inter's official website.

“This was a choice that was agreed upon with FIGC President Gravina and Roberto Mancini. It will carry on until the European Championship, then we’ll see what happens."

Antonio Conte’s arrival at the Nerazzurri has seen them challenge for the Scudetto alongside his former club Juventus, and Oriali believes Conte has done great things in such a short space of time.

“We’re surpassing expectations, we didn’t think we’d be where we currently are at this point of the season.

“There’s still a lot of work to do, but the journey we’ve been on up to this point has been a positive one.

“We’ve had a few injuries and there are a lot of games to play, but things are going quite well. We’ll try to remain as high as possible, it isn’t easy as our competitors are strong.

“Our results speak for Conte. He’s hands-on and involved in the project: he arrived with the right mentality and the intention to make an impact at Inter.

“He wants to leave a big mark here. The club’s expectations are very high, time is required.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic made his return to Serie A after seven-and-a-half years away from the league after signing with Milan this week, and Oriali recalls his best memory of Ibra.

“I’m happy about it, I have an excellent relationship with him and, above all, great memories.

“The best one is related to Parma vs. Inter: he was injured but, prior to coming on, said that he’d score and we’d win the Scudetto. He was true to his word.”
