Serie B side Perugia have sacked coach Massimo Oddo and will replace the World Cup winner with cult hero Serse Cosmi.

Oddo’s dismissal comes after a 1-0 home defeat to Venezia, which left the Umbrian side eighth and only in the playoffs by the virtue of a point.

Replacing him, reports Sky Sport Italia, will be Cosmi [pictured], who memorably coached Perugia between 2000 and 2004.

The 61-year-old led them through the most successful period in their recent history, which yielded an Inter-Toto Cup in 2003.

The 61-year-old led them through the most successful period in their recent history, which yielded an Inter-Toto Cup in 2003.

His squad contained several stars, including Fabio Grosso, Fabio Liverani, Marco Materazzi, Hidetoshi Nakata and Fabrizio Miccoli.

He went on to manage the likes of Genoa, Udinese, Brescia and Lecce, yet his time at the Renato Curi remains his longest at any one club since the turn of the millennium.

Cosmi was last in charge of Venezia, leaving the Arancioneroverdi in the summer after having just about kept them in Serie B.
