Emilio De Leo has admitted it would be “useful to have more alternatives” at Bologna when he prepares for “an aggressive” match against Fiorentina.

The Rossoblu are currently 11th in Serie A and Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men are seven points behind sixth-placed Cagliari when they return from the winter break.

De Leo admitted they could do with some new players at the Renato Dall’Ara.

“The managers will take care of it,” De Leo said at a press conference. “It would certainly be useful to have more alternatives going forward.”

Mihajlovic’s assistant expects a “reaction” from Fiorentina, who appointed Beppe Iachini as the Vincenzo Montella’s successor during the holidays.

“A change of coach always brings reactions from an emotional and nervous point of view,” De Leo said at a press conference. “We expect an aggressive approach by them from the off and we have to be more determined.”

“We want to improve our continuity and when we have matured, we will see what level we’re at,” he said. “With Mihajlovic, we spoke about the fact that we have come from months of hard work and are looking to make a leap forward in the second half of the season.”

Blerim Dzemaili is doubtful for the match against the Viola and Ladislav Krejci is expected to be back next week.

“He’s had the flu and is still on antibiotics, let’s see how it goes,” the assistant coach said. “Krejci is back at work, we are expecting him together with the group next week.

“Other than that, we are a full squad. The team is in great shape after the holidays and are very concentrated.”

Mattia Destro left on a loan deal to Genoa and De Leo has admitted they struggled to help him perform at the Renato Dall’Ara.

“I send him my best wishes, he deserves it,” De Leo added. “He has always been an exemplary professional with us. Some variations have limited his performances and maybe we didn’t manage to find the solution. I hope he will find stability.”

Erick Pulgar left the Rossoblu last summer in a transfer worth €10m and has played 16 games for Fiorentina in 2019-20.

De Leo added that he felt Bologna has “helped” the midfielder develop ahead of his first game against his old employer.

“I don’t have to be the one to send messages to players from other teams. I thank him, but I also think that we’ve been useful to help him grow."
