Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini hailed Inter coach Antonio Conte for “gaining a lot of credibility” but has claimed “anything can happen” on Saturday.

The Dea play away to Inter at their home in the Champions League this term and coach Gasperini has claimed Inter are top of the League because of their new coach.

“Inter are certainly aiming for the Scudetto, even if such a positive result wasn’t expected immediately,” Gasperini said. “Surely it’s thanks to Conte. He deserves the right to compete.

“He has gained a lot of credibility; they’re all convinced that it could be a competitive team.”

The 61-year-old claimed the match against Inter could help them “understand how close” the Dea are to the top teams.

“We are looking to finish off a positive first half. We will enter the turf of the team who are top of the standings. It’s worth a lot also for our credibility, to understand how close we are to them.

“It’s difficult to compare the games. We are 11 points behind them. Inter, Juventus and Lazio have won those matches to be there,” he added. “We must be satisfied with what we have done and then anything can happen during the game.”

Gasperini doesn’t feel Inter will be a weaker team in the absence of Nicolò Barella and Milan Skriniar.

“They can easily make up for it,” he insisted. “They have a couple of suspended players, but it doesn’t seem like an emergency.”

Atalanta are one place away from the Champions League places ahead of the 19th round of fixtures in Serie A and are currently one point behind Roma at fourth – who will play joint-leaders Juventus on Sunday.

“We have picked up 34 points so far and are in the fight for a place in Europe,” Gasp concluded.
