Mattia Caldara has passed a medical with Atalanta ahead of his return to the club from Milan.

The 25-year-old defender is moving back to Bergamo after a turbulent 18 months at San Siro, where he suffered two serious injuries that curtailed his stint with the Rossoneri.

Indeed, Caldara only made two appearances for Milan in all competitions since joining from Juventus in the summer of 2018.

Calciomercato.com reports he has now passed his medical with Atalanta and all that awaits is for official confirmation of the deal.

He will return on an 18-month loan with €15m option to buy and could be called up to face Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia next week.

Replacing the stopper at Milan is set to be Simon Kjaer, who is coincidentally on loan at Atalanta.
