Gotti: 'Ball retention needs to improve'

Udinese coach Luca Gotti wasn’t happy with his side’s performance despite the 3-0 win against Sassuolo. “We could’ve managed the ball better.”

The Zebrette emerged victorious against the Neroverdi in the early morning kickoff, winning 3-0, but the coach wasn’t exactly happy about the performance.

“The final result must not hide a game that has been difficult, we were solid, but we could have managed the ball better,” said Gotti in his press conference.

“We gave the ball back to the opposition too frequently and in certain situations this made us suffer.

“After we went 1-0 ahead we lost a little aggression, we were a little too passive, and Sassuolo could’ve punished us.”

Rodrigo De Paul had lost form in recent games, but Gotti says that today showcased the best of the Argentine.

“There is a lot of talk about De Paul, but it is on the pitch that has the final word, today, I think we saw the best De Paul. He produced a game of great sacrifice, and later enhanced his performance with a good goal.”

Gotti was asked if he is more in the style of an English manager, as he isn’t maniacal on the sidelines like some of his colleagues.

“I have an English aplomb, but this does not mean that I am a farmer who comes from the Po delta.

“I am free range, I have my way of reacting to things and I can communicate my dissatisfaction.”
