Brescia coach Eugenio Corini says his side played well “for 25 minutes” against Sampdoria before capitulating in the second half.

The Rondinelle lost 5-1 to Claudio Ranieri’s men despite taking an early lead, and haven’t won since beating Lecce in mid-December.

“I think we played very well for 25 minutes. Then Samp pushed a lot, scored the equaliser, and they believed in going for the win,” said Corini in a press conference.

“Despite this, we created chances in the second half, but the penalty gave Sampdoria the advantage. From then on everything got a little complicated, and the final result was too much, considering the performance.”

Brescia find themselves second from bottom in Serie A at the halfway stage of the season, and Corini has no doubts that his side are in a battle.

“We have to realise that we are in the relegation zone. We have to make important steps in the second half of the campaign.

“The team, beyond today’s result, has shown that they can compete with anyone, but in Serie A you pay for carelessness.

“Consequently, we must raise our level.”
