Leonardo Semplici felt SPAL “would’ve been disappointed with a draw, let alone defeat” to Fiorentina, as they wasted too many chances.

The Spallini remain bottom of the table at the halfway stage of the season, but had arguably the better chances at the Stadio Franchi, only to be beaten by a German Pezzella header.

“If you miss that many scoring opportunities, then it becomes difficult to get a positive result,” confessed Semplici to Sky Sport Italia.

“If you miss that many scoring opportunities, then it becomes difficult to get a positive result,” confessed Semplici to Sky Sport Italia.

“The team played well and did what we asked in training, not showing fear, but unfortunately we still emerged empty-handed. It’s disappointing, because if you come here and play like this against a quality Fiorentina side, you need that extra clinical edge.

“Considering the performances over 90 minutes, I thought even a draw would’ve been disappointing, let alone a defeat. We know this season is difficult, but we have to believe in ourselves and start getting the results we deserve.

“I got quite angry at the end and that’s rare for me. We must realise that we’re bottom of the table and have nothing to lose, so we’ve got to go for it and be more determined in front of goal. That is what we were missing today.”
