Fiorentina boss Beppe Iachini isn't underestimating his side's victory over SPAL. "They beat Torino a few weeks ago, and also Lazio."
The Viola beat the Ferrara outfit 1-0 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi thanks to a goal from German Pezzella, and new coach Iachini has now won four points from his first two games.
“If I am here, it’s because there was some difficulty before. We haven’t done anything yet but we have ample room for growth,“ said Iachini in his press conference.
“In two games we have demonstrated solidity. I can’t presume to say that this is my Fiorentina. In the first 20 minutes we played well, then we made some wrong choices and we lost our serenity.
“We hadn't won at home since early October, there was pressure and it could be seen in the legs and in the minds.”
New signing Patrick Cutrone came on as a late substitute during the Viola’s victory, and he could well make his full debut in the Coppa Italia clash against Atalanta next week.
“Tomorrow we will do tests to understand how much fuel he has in his legs after months of almost inactivity. We will see what he needs to reach top condition.
“The lad was immediately available and entered with the right attitude.”
Iachini was under no illusions that despite SPAL being bottom of the table, their victory wasn’t easy.
“It’s special to win my first game at the Franchi because it’s never easy to win against anyone. SPAL beat Torino a few weeks ago, and also against Lazio previously.
“They do better on the road than they do in Ferrara. The win is dedicated to our fans and to the players who we must trust.”
Asked if Fiorentina need more players during the January transfer window, Iachini retorted that he only focuses on matters on the pitch.
“I concentrate on the field. We have faced two difficult games for different reasons. We got four points that could’ve been six without stealing anything from anyone.
“There is room for growth, but with the club we are working to insert certain elements that will make the side more complete and competitive.
“We want to look beyond saving ourselves from relegation, this is how I feel.”
