The Nerazzurri have been linked with the Danish midfielder for a number of weeks, with reports suggesting that he could either arrive in January for €20m or join in the summer as a free agent.
Eriksen played in the 1-0 defeat against Liverpool last weekend, and at the end of the game could be seen waving to supporters, which many took as a sign of his departure this month.
Yet Mourinho says the 27-year-old will play against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup third round replay tomorrow.
"If you ask me if this is the best Christian Eriksen, I have to be honest and say no," Mourinho said in a press conference.
"I'm not an idiot, I've been in football for many years. A player who is in this position, it's normal that a player in this situation doesn't perform at the highest level."
