Rolando Maran wants Cagliari to “get back the ferocity” they had at the start of the season, as they face Inter in the Coppa Italia.
It kicks off on Tuesday at 19.45 GMT at San Siro, with the winners going on to face Fiorentina or Atalanta in the Quarter-Finals.
“We’ll go to Milan in order to play our cards and are proud to have already reached this stage of the competition,” said the coach in his press conference.
The Sardinians had a sensational start to the season, but have now lost four Serie A games on the bounce.
“It’s a difficult moment for us, but we are still sixth in the table. After such a long and positive run of results, a wobble can happen, above all on a psychological level. We must get back that ferocity that set us apart until now.
“I will choose the best line-up based on what I see in training, so not a complete squad rotation. I want a team that can challenge to get through to the next round.”
Inter’s confidence was also shaken by a 1-1 home draw with Atalanta, which allowed Juventus to be crowned Winter Champions of Serie A.
“The Nerazzurri make solidity their main strength, as they allow very few goals and are extremely physical. We certainly won’t try to sit back and counter, because it’s simply not in our nature to do so,” added Maran.
Alessio Cragno is in the squad again, but still not ready to start, while Radja Nainggolan is expected to face his former club.
Fabrizio Cacciatore, Luca Ceppitelli, Daniele Ragatzu and Leonardo Pavoletti are still out of action.
Cagliari squad for Inter: Rafael, Cragno, Olsen; Klavan, Pisacane, Lykogiannis, Faragò, Pellegrini, Walukiewicz; Nainggolan, Rog, Cigarini, Birsa, Oliva, Nandez, Ionita, Castro; Cerri, Joao Pedro, Simeone
