The Viola are unbeaten in Iachini’s two first games in charge at the Artemio Franchi and tomorrow they face a big challenge in the Coppa Italia round of 16.

Iachini revealed he admires the work of Gian Piero Gasperini and said they’ve shown “how to close the gap” up to the top teams in Italy.

“Atalanta showed against Inter that they are a great team, coached wonderfully. It shows how well they’ve been working,” he said at a press conference. “They’ve been working together for four years; we’ve been together for two weeks.

“Atalanta can be an example to follow – how to close the gap between the top clubs and us.”

Iachini has claimed Fiorentina are looking for a good run in the Coppa Italia and claimed the club has moved forward already during his first weeks at the helm.

“The Coppa Italia is a big challenge for us, it’s very important,” he said. “We want to do our best.

“We have to look at the positives. Two weeks ago, we were close to the relegation zone [in Serie A], now we’ve shown we’re solid and secured two important results against Bologna and SPAL.

“Football teaches me that things can change quickly, but it’s down to us to make it happen.

“Now we think about being solid, strong, concentrated. One step at a time; we can grow and improve.”

New signing Cutrone has arrived from Wolverhampton and Iachini admitted that he’s considering handing the former Milan forward his debut on Wednesday.

“Today will be Cutrone’s third training session with us. We will test him, and if I think he’s ready, he might start against Atalanta,” Iachini said. “He’s not just a poacher.

“He helps the team defensively too. He can play in a deeper role as well,” he added. “He just needs time to adapt to our tactics. I expect great things from him.”
