The England U21 international revealed that his mother keeps reminding him that she used to score goals during her playing days.

“After every game, my mum, who played football, tells me that she used to score and I never do,” Vieira told Il Secolo XIX. “Too bad there are no videos to see it.”

Vieira’s performances in the English Championship secured him a €7m move to the Marassi and after 33 games without a goal, he has claimed he needs to “start scoring” to help secure a place in the England squad.

“I have to start scoring for my mother and for the English national side. I’m at an age where I could play for the U21 side, but I dream of playing for the senior team.

“A few goals would certainly attract me some more attention.”
