Inzaghi: 'Fantastic first half of the season'

Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi says their goal is to “start the second half of the season as we ended the first,” ahead of their clash with Sampdoria.

The Biancocelesti have thus far surpassed expectations in Serie A, sitting third in the table and only six points from league leaders Juventus in first place.

Inzaghi’s side take on Sampdoria tomorrow at the Stadio Olimpico, with kick off at 14:00 GMT. You read the match preview here.

“Honestly, we had a marvellous first half of the season. But our objective is to continue the second half as we finished the first,” said Inzaghi in his press conference.

“We know we will find strong adversaries, and that they will do everything to make life more difficult for us. We have to believe in what we are doing, believing as a team.”

Should Lazio beat Claudio Ranieri’s men, for a brief period of time they will be 10 points clear of fourth-placed Atalanta.

“We have to only think about our own path. Our opponents can do as well as us. Every Sunday the Italian championship presents pitfalls. After winning several trophies we want to reach the Champions League. This is our goal.”

The Biancocelesti have some injury problems, and Inzaghi states that the club are looking to bring in more players, but is might not necessarily happen.

“Joaquin Correa trained on Monday because he’s a very good lad. He wanted to be with the team against Napoli last weekend and then for the game against Cremonese, but he’s still in some bother and had to stop training for three days.

“Adam Marusic is not ready and Danilo Cataldi had a problem in the game against Cremonese and he will be out for the next 15-20 days.

“We know that January will be a busy period, we are talking to the club. We want to improve the team, if this can happen very well, but if otherwise we will go on with the team that’s given us a lot of satisfaction this season.

“But we have to be careful about who we bring in. We are no longer in Europe, so we will only play once a week.”
