Sassuolo boss Roberto De Zerbi states the winter break can’t be used as an alibi for their problems. “Last year’s issues are still here in 2020.”
The Neroverdi have lost their last three consecutive games in Serie A, but De Zerbi doesn’t want to blame their defeats on the winter break.
“I don’t think our problem is because of the short stop. I believe there were other elements, some of which were also there last year,” said De Zerbi in his press conference.
“Our main problem is not finishing chances, and other issues can be noticed in our formation. We played well against Genoa, and that was this year.”
Sassuolo take on Torino tomorrow, with kickoff at 17:00 GMT. You can read the match preview here.
“Today Torino are amongst the three most in-form teams in the league. They are a strong team that has a certain type of play. It will be a difficult game.
“We have to think about our game, as against Genoa, and less like the game against Udinese.”
Domenico Berardi will be back after serving a suspension, and De Zerbi says it’s important to have the winger back.
“Berardi is fine, he’s a different player from the others, if he doesn’t play we have showed that we can replace him, like for example in Turin against Juventus.
“Without him, we played a great game. However, young players have to play, otherwise their growth gets affected.”
De Zerbi has been at the Neroverdi for 18 months, but says he isn’t taking stock of his time at the club.
“I’m not thinking about it, I have other things in mind for what is needed tomorrow.
“In this period we have to think about taking points because this year is a different championship. We have to recharge, and we have to come up with something more.”
