The Viola have now won two on the bounce in Serie A, along with a midweek Coppa Italia victory over Atalanta, since Iachini replaced Vincenzo Montella in December.

“The coach gave us a big hand to get back into shape physically, we all feel a bit exhausted now, but it was a great performance. We were all united, the kind of Fiorentina the coach wants to see, so we are all happy,” Chiesa told DAZN.

“As soon as he arrived, we talked and immediately understood what we wanted to do. Fiorentina were not in a good situation before the winter break, so we needed to turn things around and we’re all very united now.

“I am accustomed to playing on the wing, so I need to improve a great deal as a support striker, but with help from the coach, I will try to make the right movements to help out my team both when attacking and helping out in defence.”

Gaetano Castrovilli was particularly impressive at the Stadio San Paolo this evening and is making himself a candidate for the Italy squad at Euro 2020.

“Castro is having a fantastic season, he can take men on so easily and we are fortunate to have him in the squad. He’s also my room-mate in the team retreat, so we get along really well.

“I sent a message to Nicolò Zaniolo, we’re good friends and he’s a phenomenal player, so I hope he recovers in time for us all to experience the Euros.”
