Corini: 'Brescia paying the price for success'

Brescia coach Eugenio Corini says the club are ‘paying the price for surpassing expectations’ ahead of their clash against Cagliari.

The Rondinelle welcome the Sardinian outfit to the Stadio Mario Rigamonti, with kick-off at 14:00 GMT. You can read the match preview here.

Corini’s side are coming off of a 5-1 defeat to Sampdoria last weekend, and the Brescia boss says they need to display spirit against Cagliari.

“We’ve come from a bad defeat, the result in Genoa hurt us,” said Corini in his press conference.

“We talked about it, it has been an important week from many points of view. I am sure that we will find our spirit.

“The team has always had a moral strength in difficult situations, we must fight to save ourselves.”

Brescia surpassed expectations last season in Serie B and won promotion, finishing top of the table, and Corini they are now paying for their success.

“When you accelerate down a path too quickly you pay for something.  We have 18 players making their debuts in Serie A.

“We’ve also paid for having some injuries that are difficult for the side to sustain. When you have a couple of players out injured you can feel the difficulty.

“I told the lads, I believe it and I will push hard: we all have the possibility to save ourselves from relegation, but it will be complicated.

“It’s essential to find consistency.”

Brescia completed the signing of Finland international Simon Skrabb, and Corini hopes he can give a positive contribution.

“He’s had a good week, and always trained. Athletically he’s in good shape. I think he’ll be able to play in the game, but perhaps not from the start.
