Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini says he will be without several players for tomorrow’s game against SPAL and warns of underestimating them. “They dominated against Fiorentina.”
La Dea take on the Ferrara outfit in the Monday night clash in Bergamo with kickoff at 19:45 GMT. You can read the match preview here.
Gasperini admit that he could be without several men for the clash.
“We have Hans Hateboer and Timothy Castagne unavailable for tomorrow. We will either change system or adapt a player to put on the wing,” said Gasperini in his press conference.
“I was hoping to recover Castagne, but the player doesn’t feel ready to play.
“Papu Gomez is also not well. I hope to have him back but it’s not certain that he will play.”
Despite being bottom of the table, Gasperini says SPAL aren’t to be underestimated, and they don’t deserve their lowly position.
“SPAL in my opinion are a team that deserves more. They dominated against Fiorentina in Florence.
“They are a team to be faced with attention, this is the type of game you have to win.
“This season they are not going through a season like others, but they are a difficult opponent in the way they play and in their performances.
“They are very physical, and we know many of their players. When you are at the bottom of the league you always give something more.”
Gasperini now believes La Dea are beginning to hit their stride after a shakey start to the campaign.
“We conceded avoidable goals at the beginning of the season, something that is still happening even now.
“We can do better, playing in the Champions League gave us quality and got us used to playing against strong sides.
“What is clear is that we must continue to play in this spirit and with this enthusiasm. It’s right to think of Europe, for me it’s fundamental.”
