Borini: 'I just want to win'

Fabio Borini said he had “dreamt” of scoring on his debut and claimed his move to Hellas Verona “was a brave choice”.

After struggling to establish himself at Milan, the former Liverpool player signed a six-month deal at the Bentegodi this month.

It started well for him, as he came on to grab the equaliser in a 1-1 match against Bologna last weekend, and he said he matched the “characteristics” coach Ivan Juric was looking for.

“I think it was a brave choice,” Borini told the reporters. “I know what I can give this team, so it’s brave to a certain extent.

“From the way Mr. Juric described it to me, they are the perfect characteristics for what I can do.”

“The impact was exciting and positive, I dreamt of making such a debut,” he said. “There’s not much time to reflect, we have to take one game at a time.”

He has also claimed that a contract lasting until this summer was the best solution for both parties in this moment.

“The six-month contract is good for everyone,” he said. “It’s shows that I don’t sit twiddling my thumbs.

“The team has a way of playing a little bit like… the English. The coach described this to me before I came here. The game is intense in both phases. He doesn’t expect to win the match, not even when we’re in the lead. It’s a mentality that suits me and makes you have fun”.

He also touched on his time with Milan, as he left the club two and half seasons and 51 Serie A games since he joined them from Sunderland.

“I can have my own idea, but I can’t be the one who gives the answer,” he told the press. “I was willing to play in different roles. At Milan I played in seven out of 11 positions, all with the same mentality.

“My character was like that at Milan and will be like that in Verona. I want to win every game. The goal against Bologna was nice, but I picked up the ball because I wanted to win the game.”

Verona are preparing to face Lecce at home this weekend and Borini could be in line to get his first start for the Gialloblu.
