Nicola: 'Need a team identity'

Genoa coach Davide Nicola says the Rossoblu need to create togetherness in their squad, quickly. “The sooner we can achieve a team identity, the more likely we are to gain results.”

Genoa travel to Fiorentina tomorrow, with kickoff at 17:00 GMT. You can read the match preview here.

Nicola’s side battled bravely against Roma last weekend, but still lost 3-1, and believes that they must begin to form an identity if they are to have any chance of survival.

“Victories are always fundamental. We already have a particular adrenaline but the sooner we achieve a team identity the better,” said Nicola in his press conference.

“If we do that, the more likely we are to gain results home and away, and secure safety.

“In the second half with Roma the team found the correct path. Our work has paid off and we must continue down this road.”

The Rossoblu travel to face Fiorentina, and Nicola states that his side musn't fear them.

“They are a team that’s strengthened in the market and are doing well. They are showing they have quality and the desire to get results.

“However, regardless of the opponent, we must build our identity throughout the game and have courage, so we can be competitive with everyone.”

Genoa signed Sebastian Eriksson from IFK Goteborg, and Nicola says the 31-year-old could play a part in the game against the Viola.

“We still have one final training session before the game, but Eriksson has made a good impression and has shown the desire to make himself available immediately.

“He has come here with the right attitude, and knows he has to fight.”
