Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini states that there was more of a “mental drop than physical” against SPAL.
La Dea were expected to beat the struggling side, especially as they were at home and with SPAL struggling to score goals.
However Gasperini’s men lost 2-1 on Monday night, but says they will start again against Torino.
“The match against SPAL wasn’t a stumbling blick, it happens during a season. After the match against Inter there was a bit of a drop, more mental than physical,” said Gasperini in his press conference.
“With SPAL the pressure weighed a lot, and more so considering how the match started. We weren’t able to win a match that was going well, now we have to start again.”
Atalanta travel to Turin to play Torino at the Stadio Olimpico di Torino, with the match kicking off at 19:45 GMT. You can read the match preview here.
Papu Gomez and Timothy Castagne are doubts for the game against the Granata, so what updates can Gasperini give?
“Gomez is well and has recovered. Castagne still hasn’t trained. He is a great loss, he underwent surgery in August and is still feeling a few niggles from it, even if he played games afterwards.
“We hope that he can return as soon as possible.”
La Dea officially signed defender Lennart Czyborra this week, but Gasperini says the game has come too early for the German.
“Czyborra won’t be called up, he has a small injury to clean up. We want to understand him a little more.
“He’s arrived with a lot of enthusiasm but today and tomorrow he will train alone. We hope to have him available on Monday.”
