Inter saw off heavy competition for Denmark international Christian Eriksen due to a meeting that took place in November, claims La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Nerazzurri are closing in on signing the Dane from Tottenham for a reported fee of €20m, including bonuses.
La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolò Schira states that Inter were able to stave off serious interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Manchester United because of a meeting held between general manager Beppe Marotta and Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots on November 22.
Schira claims that a meeting was held at the Hotel Gallia in Milan that lasted for roughly 75 minutes, in which Marotta and Schoots discussed the possibility of the Denmark international joining the Serie A giants.
Negotiations have since continued, with Inter close to finalising the deal with Tottenham.
Eriksen will sign a four-and-a-half-year contract and will earn wages of €11m gross per season at San Siro, with a medical expected on Monday.
It cannot be announced until Spurs have found a suitable replacement.
