Davide Nicola believes Genoa deserved to beat Fiorentina and should use that “constructive anger” to fuel their progress.
The Grifone even had a penalty in Florence, Bartlomiej Dragowski saving the Domenico Criscito spot-kick.
“We are rightly a bit angry this evening, but it should be constructive anger, because we had the clearest scoring opportunities and deserved to win,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia after a 0-0 draw.
“My interest was to give an identity to this team and I feel we saw that in the second half against Roma and throughout this match. We’re still a little tentative, so need to believe more in what we’re doing to release men between the lines.
“It was a positive performance and we have to build on that while picking up points, which is not easy. The regret tonight is that we should’ve taken all three points, but we’ve got to make this more consistent and be aware that we are wearing a prestigious jersey, so everyone must be proud of this Genoa.
“We’ve got to speed up the process, as I feel these players have the quality, but don’t yet fully realise how much they’ve got. There were some passages of play this evening that comforted me, showed what we could do.
“For example, after missing the penalty, it’s easy to lose focus, but we remained a team and kept going to create many more scoring opportunities.”
