The 21-year-old centre-back arrived from Brazil yesterday and was in the stands for the Derby della Capitale with Lazio, then had his medical this morning.

Atalanta signed him from Fluminense for just under €4m a year ago, but he only made two very brief substitute appearances for a total 20 minutes on the pitch.

As part of the transfer, Atalanta will also be owed 10 per cent of the fee if he is sold before June 30, 2024.

If he is not sold by the end of the contract in June 2024, La Dea will receive €1m.

“We believe a great deal in Roger’s potential,” said CEO Guido Fienga.

“We are sure that he can help the team from this season, but above all the next few months will help the lad learn about our football project.

“Ibanez can become an important player for our defence.”

The player will wear shirt number 41.
